Apple and Nvidia are reportedly in advanced discussions to invest in OpenAI, potentially pushing the AI firm's valuation beyond USD 100 billion, according to media sources on Thursday.
The Wall Street Journal first disclosed Apple’s interest, while Bloomberg News mentioned Nvidia’s involvement. This news follows the recent revelation that venture capital firm Thrive Capital plans to inject approximately USD 1 billion into OpenAI, spearheading the new funding round.
The deal points to OpenAI’s growing prominence in the artificial intelligence sector, spurred by the success of its ChatGPT technology. Apple’s investment would further strengthen its AI strategy, particularly following the integration of ChatGPT into its devices under the "Apple Intelligence" initiative.
The tech giant is also reported to be gaining an observer role on OpenAI’s board. Meanwhile, Microsoft, OpenAI’s largest strategic investor with over USD 10 billion already committed, is also expected to participate in the upcoming funding round.
