National carrier Air India is going to operate additional flights on its Delhi-Indore sector from April 22, with an A321 aircraft to cater to the demands of tourists, pilgrims and visitors to the Simhastha Kumbh Mela festival.
Air India already operates a daily direct flight on this sector. The additional flight will benefit both domestic and international tourists travelling on this sector.
At least five crore people are expected to visit Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh for this religious congregation which happens after a gap of 12 years. The month long fest is one of the largest congregations of Hindus on the banks of Shipra river in temple town of Ujjain.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to be present there on its concluding day on May 14.
The flight AI9635 departed from Delhi at 1155hrs and will arrive in Indore at 1330 hrs. The return flight, AI9636 will depart from Indore at 1400 hrs and will arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at 1525 hrs.
Starting today (April 22) this year, Simhastha is one of the four legs of the Kumbh Mela, each taking place by rotation every 12 years.
