Researchers from IIT Kanpur have calculated that the problem of Delhi's dirty air may be solved for around a week with a budget of Rs 3 crore.
The researchers told they want to use cloud seeding, which will cost Rs 1 lakh to cover a square kilometre in the sky, as reported in Economic Times.
IIT Kanpur is collaborating with the Delhi government on an artificial rain project, facilitated by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Targeting a 300 square kilometre cloud area, the initiative intends to cover the 1,200 square km Delhi National Capital Region. The research team discussed the concept in a recent meeting with members of the Delhi administration.
Essential preconditions, such as sufficient cloud cover and required approvals, are the immediate focus in order to move forward.
Approval from various authorities such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, Airport Authority of India, Ministry of Defence, and Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) are crucial components of the plan.
