It has been reportedly found that top executives from major tech organisations have joined an advisory board in the US, that will direct the federal government in protecting critical infrastructure such as power grids, airports and transportation from the threat of artificial intelligence.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and 18 other top executives have joined the advisory board.
The board will make mandatory recommendations and take measures to prevent AI-related disruptions to critical services that affect national or economic security, public health, or safety.
Additionally, the newly established organisation has been assigned the duty of assisting DHS in keeping pace with emerging threats presented by adversarial nation-state entities.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the potential of artificial intelligence to enhance national interests, stating that while it offers transformative benefits, it also poses significant risks that can be managed through the implementation of best practices and strategic actions.
The board's primary focus lies not in theory, but in practical solutions for implementing AI in our nation's daily life. The DHS secretary emphasised the significance of involving key developers of this immensely powerful tool.
