In the new normal, Video Conferencing and Group video calls is a thing, US-based ZOOM Video conferencing platform has seen a sharp rise in active users since March of 2020 right when multiple countries started to go under lockdown to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile cashing in on the growing calls for 'Made in India' sentiment, Reliance Jio has launched a free video-conferencing application called JioMeet, taking on US-based Zoom platform and the likes.
JioMeet is quite feature-loaded just like the competition. For starters, the maximum participant limit is 100, with HD video capability available. Meetings are password protected and encrypted to ensure user privacy. Meanwhile for ease of use WebRTC is supported, allowing one click to join the meeting through the web browser using the invite link without requiring the need to download the app, JioMeet also provides the ability to schedule meetings in advance and share the link with potential participants. To ensure unauthorised access to the meeting, there is a waiting room feature. JioMeet also offers the ability to create groups and also share screens and collaborate with other team members.
While this is a welcome initiative by Jio, the mobile application of JioMeet seems to be a direct clone of the Zoom mobile app on android.
