Wipro on Friday said it was planning to onboard approximately 10,000-12,000 freshers from campuses in in the current fiscal. This comes after the company experienced a decline in headcount for six consecutive quarters until the end of FY24.
In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Wipro added just 337 employees. However, the company's latest hiring plans signal a positive shift in demand and bring hope to fresh graduates seeking employment.
Sourabh Govil, Chief Human Resources Officer at Wipro, said that the company has resumed campus hiring after a year-long hiatus, successfully onboarding around 3,000 freshers in the first quarter.
Govil further mentioned that Wipro aims to clear the backlog of offers made previously and will continue to strengthen its relationships with educational institutes.
“We also have relationships with certain institutes. So, we will be going to all those campuses and also look for off campus hiring for next year,” he added.
Additionally, the company plans to explore off-campus hiring for the next year, maintaining a similar hiring target for FY26 to ensure preparedness for future growth.
Wipro’s utilisation rate for the first quarter of FY25 rose to 87.7 per cent, up from 83.7 per cent in the same quarter of the previous year and 86.9 per cent in the preceding quarter. The company also reported an attrition rate of 14.1 per cent, indicating a relatively stable workforce.
In a broader industry context, Infosys has announced plans to hire 15,000-20,000 freshers this year, combining both campus and off-campus recruitment. This announcement comes after six quarters of subdued hiring activity. Similarly, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had previously set a hiring target of 40,000 for FY25, with 11,000 freshers already onboarded in the first quarter.
