Vivo has revealed its plans regarding the initiation of manufacturing at its new facility in Greater Noida. This factory covers around 169 acres and has an annual manufacturing capacity of 60 million units. According to Vivo's annual India Impact Report 2023, this capacity has the potential to increase to 120 million devices once fully operational. The corporation has not provided a date for this growth yet though.
Vivo's new factory is an important part of the company's twin strategy in India, which aims to increase domestic production while also producing ‘India-centric’ goods by localising design, camera effects and overall product experience.
Vivo India's CEO, Jerome Chen, emphasised the company's dedication to adapting its products to local tastes and preferences through the "Design for India" project. To date, the Greater Noida factory has manufactured over 150 million smartphones, considerably expanding Vivo's production capacity in India. This expansion is part of Vivo's Rs 7,500 crore investment announced last year, which includes Rs 3,500 crore previously invested in the nation, mostly to increase its manufacturing presence.
The new plant replaces Vivo's existing leased facility in Greater Noida, which had an annual capacity of 40 million gadgets and employed about 10,000 people. Vivo's new factory has provided over 15,000 direct and indirect employment possibilities over the last nine years, with the business claiming to have created about 200,000 jobs in India.
The company presently runs six flagship stores in India, including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Coimbatore, with ambitions to extend to ten by 2024. The firm has over 1,000 distribution partners, 30,000 Vivo brand associates and roughly 70,000 retail touchpoints across India.
