Press Trust of India (PTI) has appointed Associated Press veteran Vijay Joshi as its new editor-in-chief.
Joshi, 55, has reported from key capitals of Asia and the Middle East, including Cairo, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, for the American news agency.
The management structure at PTI has witnessed some key changes. The two key positions of CEO and editor-in-chief were earlier held by one person, but in July last year, the organisation decided to split the roles.
M.K. Razdan, who was the editor-in-chief and CEO, was replaced by Venky Venkatesh as CEO of PTI.
Joshi, with three decades of journalism experience, was appointed AP's chief of bureau in Malaysia in 2004.
He joined AP in New Delhi in 1989 as a correspondent. Five years later, he moved to Singapore as its news editor. Joshi served as a correspondent in Cairo from 1997 until he was named news editor in Bangkok in 2000.
In 2015 he was named as AP's director of news for Southeast Asia.
Joshi, who holds a degree in journalism from Osmania University in Hyderabad, started his media career with the Indian Express newspaper in 1985 and also worked with PTI before joining AP.
