The recent Gorakhpur tragedy has left the nation in shock. With over 60 children killed due to reasons best known to the people of the country, the tragedy has left important questions related to the medical situation in India unanswered.
Citing Gorakhpur tragedy, Sultanpur MP from BJP, Varun Gandhi, today promised a sum total of 5 crore rupees from MPLADS fund for a model paediatric wing in Sultanpur district hospital. An additional amount of 5 crore rupees will also be raised through donations and CSR funding.
"The wing would also include an in-house research centre that would work on matters of child healthcare and prevention of several water/air-borne diseases that could affect these defenceless children. The paediatric wing will provide free vaccination for children under the national vaccine program", said Gandhi.
The Gorakhpur tragedy has certainly raised alarms across the country on the state of medical equipment infrastructure in hospitals. The apathy of government hospitals has been left exposed and the whole situation must trigger a constructive response from the state governments and the centre.
