A recent report by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has indicated various production related figures for nations, India has a major role to play in the projections.
The past records and estimates of wheat supply by India has been widely true and similar to figures of union agriculture ministry of India.
It is a critical observation made by USDA, about India’s growing strength in production, along with low imports of an important food-grain. With the various projections indicating policy decision by government to restrict imports, a better consumption and market strengthening is very much on cards.
India’s rice supply has also been touched by USDA estimates. It is a critical observation of a real competition between rice supplies, where India, China and somehow Thailand plays an important role in worlds production table. Though, the quality wise superiority of premium rice production of India has no real competition in the world (PNCRA, Brazil).
USDA’s estimation of a little increase in exports of rice is speaking for India’s steady pace in food-grain yield increase, report has already suggested of a stable increase in production of rice as well.
India’s strength in textile industry is well known, especially for its quality cotton produce. USDA has also given estimations for cotton supplies.
Cotton production has been on higher side, but the major fluctuation in imports is indication of low input material from foreign nations. Sources from food and agriculture organisation suggest a sudden increase in cotton imports as a global factor of high demands in textile industry.
Supply of soybean has been a major projection from USDA’s future estimates. As expected Brazil has been shown as one of the major soybean producers of the world, China has also started to give some sort of competition in world market, where India is yet to find it a source of nutrition, possibly the only reason why, soybean production has not increased up to full potential in India. Soybean meal varieties though had succeeded to find a space in Indian farm fields with a moderate production status.
Soybean oil supplies are also the area where India has shown its little strength or at least presence, says USDA projection.
India’s Soybean oil production estimates may play a huge role in self dependency of India on oil imports.
The export of soybean oil will be a major target in a nation with almost two third of dependency on imports for edible oil. The USDA estimates came in a time when India is celebrating its 7th decade of independence and the union government is eyeing to double, the income of farmers of the nation.
