Highlighting that largely all the frontline public service workers have topped the list, a survey has revealed that urban Indians have rated doctors (57 per cent), members of the armed forces (56 per cent) and teachers (56 per cent) as the most trustworthy professions of 2024. As per the findings of Most Trusted Professions 2024, a 32-country Ipsos Global Advisor survey by Ipsos, these professions stepped up during Covid 19 and continue to serve society, putting in long hours and even going beyond the call of duty.
Interestingly, some of the other professions in which Indian citizens have placed their trust more are scientists (54 per cent), judges (52 per cent), bankers (50 per cent), ordinary men and women (49 per cent), and the police (47 per cent), among others.
“These professions have exemplary ethical standards and tend to stretch if work demands, going beyond the call of duty with sincerity. During the pandemic, when the entire country was in a shutdown or lockdown scenario, doctors continued to treat patients, even at the cost of personal risk, even taking a toll on them; armed forces personnel continued to man our borders and be on duty elsewhere in the country; teachers were taking online classes ensuring students do not lose a year,” stated Amit Adarkar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ipsos India.
According to the survey, doctors were the top three most trusted professions for global citizens (58 per cent), scientists (56 per cent), and teachers (54 per cent). The professions that stepped up the most during the pandemic were scientists who made the vaccines, doctors who put their lives at risk to treat patients, and teachers who taught remotely.
The survey stated that politicians (31 per cent), cabinet officials or government ministers (28 per cent), and clergy or priests (27 per cent) were the most untrustworthy professions in India. The police (28 per cent), advertising execs (25 per cent), TV news anchors or readers (25 per cent), and government employees or civil servants (24 per cent) were next.
