UltraTech Cement, India’s largest cement and ready-mix concrete company, has said that it plans to deploy 100 electric trucks to transport 75,000 metric tons of clinker monthly over a 400-kilometre round trip between its manufacturing units in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
This move is reportedly to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 17,000 metric tons, aligning with UltraTech’s Net Zero commitment by 2050.
“The company is also exploring additional routes and plans a new pilot for transporting clinker between other manufacturing units. By June 2025, UltraTech aims to deploy 500 EV trucks under the Government of India’s eFAST initiative,” the company said in a statement.
KC Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement, emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “The scale-up of EV trucks underscores our dedication to implementing sustainable practices in the cement industry.”
In 2021, the company introduced CNG vehicles, followed by LNG vehicles in 2022 and EV trucks in 2024. To date, its logistics fleet includes 468 CNG trucks and 67 LNG trucks, demonstrating a consistent push towards “Green Logistics.”
