“Dubai and India hold immense potential in driving environmental actions and promoting sustainable development,” pointed Abhishek Ganapathy, Director-Commercial at the Dubai World Trade Centre. He was speaking the 3rd Edition of the BW Sustainable World Conclave 2023.
He said that our core objective is to work within the directives and visions of Dubai’s economy and tourism. Dubai World Trade Centre works at different levels catering to business opportunities.
During his address, Ganapathy presented the Overview of UAE-India trade relationship, he highlighted, “This relationship has seen significant growth over the years. In 2020-21 UAE-India trade reached about 40 billion US dollars making UAE India’s third largest trade partner globally.”
“In 2023, a 24.7 per cent growth in the nonoil economy between the two countries while UAE’s nonoil export to India is up by 10 per cent from the year 2021. UAE is also a keen supporter of India’s vision to become a 5 trillion economic GDP by 2025,” he added.
He emphasised on the importance of the energic cooperation between UAE and India. He shared that the UAE is a major oil supplier to India and leads a significant portion of India’s energy needs. However, both the countries and have identified the importance of the transition in the clean energy which is the source to combat the climate changes. This Recognition has led to the collaboration of renewable energy including solar and wind power.
Ganapathy believes both the countries have a lot of investment opportunities. He said, “UAE’s investments were traditionally into infrastructure, real estate and technology just to contribute to the economic growth. But moving to the sustainable future these investments opportunities have been channel into the green sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable transportation, waste management and smart cities. This will not only contribute to the economic growth but also to the climate commitments of 2028.”
