A movie starring Salman Khan and directed by Kabir Khan is likely to garner huge numbers, and people had such expectations from the duo’s recent release Tubelight.
However, as per early estimates the movie has not managed to do justice to these prospects on its first Friday (23 June).
Tubelight has done a decent business for any other movie but not what can be expected from a big release of this stature.
The film was expected to do a business, in the range of at least Rs 25-30 crore on its first day itself, which is why even a business of an estimate of about Rs 20 crore seems just decent but not great for sure.
The movie is playing across 4350 screens and is the only release to hit the theatres this week which is another reason why the film was expected to do far better as it definitely had all the screens at its disposal and caters to both multiplexes and single screens. The film is running around 18 shows in multiplexes on a single day.
Produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films, ‘Tubelight’ has taken the third best opening of 2017 after ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ and ‘Raees’.
The critics haven’t been too kind to the film either and have given average to below average ratings and the word of mouth is also not great. What remains to be seen is that whether the collection figures will take a huge jump at the box office or not between its first Friday (23 June) and coming Monday (26 June).
