Kabir Khan’s directorial venture ‘Tubelight’ has not managed to take a jump at the box office collection numbers. The film has only managed to do a moderate business but definitely has not succeeded to meet the expectations of the audiences and critics alike.
The film only managed to collect Rs 13.50 crore on its fifth day (27 June), taking the total collections of the film at the domestic box office to Rs 97.36 crore.
Out of all Salman Khan’s past Eid releases, ‘Sultan’ remains the highest opening weekend film with a collection of Rs 105.53 crore.
Despite performing below expectations, ‘Tubelight’ has managed to gross over Rs 143 crore at the global box office with a collection of over Rs 22.55 crore in the overseas market. The film is expected to cross Rs 100 crore mark at domestic market on its first Wednesday (28 June).
What is strange is the fact that a Salman Khan film has not managed to cross the mark of Rs 30 crore on a single day and the collection numbers seem to be dropping with each day. Being the single big release at the box office this week and running as many as 18 shows a day at multiplexes, ‘Tubelight’ has been an underperformer at the domestic box office.
On its Opening day (23 June), the film recorded a collection of Rs 21.15 crore. Saturday (24 June) and Sunday’s (25 June) collection brought the collection figure to Rs 64.77 crore. The film was expected to record better collection on the occasion of Eid but only raked in Rs 19.09 crore while the fifth day’s (June 27th) collection slipped even more and managed a decent number of Rs 13.50 crore.
‘Tubelight’ has released across 4350 screens at the domestic market and around 1200 screens at the international market excluding China and other non- traditional markets.
