In a boost to the industrial growth in the state, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin has laid the foundation stone for a new manufacturing unit of the Taiwanese company Dean Shoes at the SIPCOT industrial park in Jayankondam. Through the investment of Rs 1,000 crore, the footwear major Long Yin Investment (Dean Shoes) will generate employment for 15,000 people.
The Minister of Industries in the Tamil Nadu government, T R B Rajaa took to X and wrote, “With an investment of Rs 1,000 crore generating over 15,000 jobs for Tamil Nadu, this investment further establishes Tamil Nadu as a global hub for non-leather footwear manufacturing.”
The minister added that more importantly, 90 per cent of these jobs are for women, a key pillar of the Dravidian Model. As per the minister, this sector’s investments are transforming more districts like Perambalur, Ranipet and Ariyalur, driving distributed growth across the state.
Stating that Tamil Nadu is home to over 32 per cent of the country’s entire footwear manufacturing sector, the minister wrote, “With global brands like Nike, Crocs, NewBalance, Adidas, Puma and many more now Made In Tamil Nadu, we are a top global footwear hub and now are home to more than 32 per cent of entire India's footwear manufacturing sector.”
The Chief Minister of the state, on his two-day visit to Ariyalur and Perambalur districts, laid foundation stones for 53 new projects worth Rs 120 crore and inaugurated 507 completed projects established at a cost of Rs 88 crore. The CM also distributed welfare aids to 21,862 beneficiaries amounting to Rs 174 crore.
