When I hear the word wellness, ‘a state of holistic well-being’ is the first thing that crosses my mind.
Over the years, the concept of wellness has evolved, it is no longer restricted to being fit. The concept of wellness has transitioned to become the new way of life. And when we talk about wellness, it’s important to talk about yoga as it tops the chart of being one of the most sought for wellness offering.
One may travel to any far corner of the earth today, and someone there would have heard of Yoga in some way or another. Here’s where it gets interesting for me. Though Yoga is practiced in multiple forms across the globe, and is one the most priceless gift bestowed on us, I often wonder whether all practitioners of the field understand the true essence and purpose of Yoga.
In my opinion, it is important to understand that the idea that yoga primarily constitutes physical exercises or merely asanas and pranayama, etc., is an inaccuracy. Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle art and science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body or in other words - holistic health. The main aim of practicing yoga is to Move Well, Sleep Well & most importantly Feel Well.
While yoga asanas go beyond a trendy, physical work out, the practice of yoga is often misunderstood.
The real beauty of yoga lies in acknowledging and respecting its ancient and complex origins and its unique ability to deliver to us, a life of profound bliss. Yoga has the power which is beyond beautifying our bodies, it is more about healing us more deeply. Yoga helps individuals to be mindful and become more aware about their bodies. Increased mindfulness results in greater happiness which leads. As per Yogic scriptures, the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the Universal Consciousness, indicating a perfect alignment between the mind and body, humanity and nature. Yoga has the power to make one exercise a semblance of control.
Another very essential part of maintaining holistic wellness is eating well. Many of us are familiar with the phrase, “you are what you eat.” And the best way to improving health is incorprating more fresh vegetables, fruits, healthy grains and superfoods into your diet. Superfoods are nutrient rich foods with disease fighting properties that strengthen the immune system, improve health and one’s overall well-being. Including yoga and superfoods in your daily routine can help one achieve a state of balance, health and harmony. It also helps in maintaining a healthy-lifestyle ecosystem. Being a practitioner of wellness, I can vouch for the fact that yoga is truly the first step towards achieving the state of holistic wellness – it will help you tap into the reserve of your inner strength and find resilience and happiness while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
