The Portronics Muffs A Review: Effective, Elegant, Affordable
It’s been a long time since I put on a pair of non-gaming Bluetooth headphones that was actually good. The Portronics Muff A came in as a surprise and that too at a time when gaming headsets are already doing an all-rounder job. In this review, I will be going into the details and finding out whether the Muffs A is a good purchase.
The Muffs A comes in simple packaging. The box comprises the headset, a USD type-C charging cable, a user manual and a warranty card.
Let me just say that given the price point of the Muffs A, the product is well-built and offers extremely good build quality. There isn’t a single hint of cost-cutting. I received the headphones in black and needless to say, it looks chic. the trust in build quality gets automatically bolstered by the fact that the headset body is IPX5 rated, making it great for outdoor usage including workouts. The fact that it’s a Bluetooth headset just makes it even better.
The muffs have memory foam which is great. Now, memory foam doesn’t automatically translate into a good fit. Many earphones in the market have that but still, end up giving sub-standard ergonomics. Portronics did a good job with the Muffs A. The muffs sit perfectly. They’re not big enough to surround the ear completely, yet the ear cushions are comfortable and cause no distress.
Another feature that really impressed me was the 90-degree swivel of the earpads. Great add-on for those who travel a lot and need to fit a lot of things in one go.
With 40mm drivers, one would expect the Muffs A to be equipped with audio and that is exactly what these headphones do. They deliver good audio. The bass is effective and I could feel it even with my gym blasting music at the highest volume. At peak volume, there is a hint of audio leakage. However, it is marginal. For its price, the Muffs A is an incredible product. The treble is great, the frequencies are on point, and last but not least, the bass is better than one would expect.
Battery life is exceptional. The brand claims 30 hours of playtime and it delivers on it. I used the headphones for working out, watching shows on Netflix, editing videos, phone calls and whatnot. The play time claimed by the company is accurate. In case the battery does drain out, you always have the option to plug in the audio cable via the 3.5mm jack provided in the Portronics Muffs A.
Connectivity is another cornerstone for the Muffs A headphones. Bluetooth V5.2 enables seamless connectivity within seconds. The headphones also have a Type-C input making it easy to charge it via any mobile charger.
I used the headphones primarily during my workouts and I have to say that this is one of the most sturdy pair I’ve used in a while. Over-the-ear headphones have a tendency to fall off. Yes, even over-the-ear headphones do that. Despite the fact that these headphones don’t cover the entire premise of the ear, the Portronics Muffs A was a solid 10/10 when it came to staying steady even after rampant movements.
In my opinion, the thing that any headphones user dreads is a bad fit. This is usually followed by poor audio and water damage. Poor audio and water damage are still manageable. But a bad fit translates into a bad design. That is something you can’t simply avoid. With the Portronics Muffs A, that will never be an issue. The fit, although not elite, is very good.
As far as audio is concerned, the headphones nail it. They get it all right and when you consider the price, the entire package seems too good to be true. For those who prefer the good ol’ wired way, the brand does provide an audio cable which can be used via the 3.5mm input.
The buttons are where the price actually reflects. They could have been better. Besides that, there’s actually nothing tangible that I can point to and deem poor.
I would say that the two most impressive features of this product are the 520 mAh battery that lasts an incredibly long time and the audio quality. The Muffs A truly is an underrated piece of equipment. When you add in the fact that it is wireless-enabled and extremely affordable, there’s no question that it is a must-have product.
