The importance of a good gaming keyboard can only be understood when you don’t have one. The Logitech G55 gaming keyboard gave me an experience that resonates with this line of thought. This review will shed light on my time with the G555 keyboard as I use this product for numerous activities in a multitude of locations (a great advantage of having a wireless keyboard).
The product comes packed in a pretty standard box. We have the keyboard nicely wrapped in a textile-based sheet. The keyboard also houses the USB dongle that acts as the wireless connector. That’s pretty much it.
In the box:
At 880 grams, the keyboard has a considerable amount of weight and as you lift it up, you feel the sturdiness of the entire product. There is no palm rest at the bottom like we saw in the WaveKeys keyboard but that is expected. The keys have a lot of bounce and ample feedback, both good things to have in a gaming keyboard.
The keys have RGB lighting under them. There’s no way to customise the lighting which felt off. A customisation feature would have added that extra oomph. I did try to do that with the Logitech Windows app but the app did not recognise the keyboard.
The keyboard has the power toggle situated at the top right corner. It has connectivity controls at the top left corner. We can choose between Bluetooth, wireless dongle and xxxx. What caught my eye is that upon turning on the keyboard, the RGB lights get into action in a wavy pattern. The standby mode has a different RGB pattern.
There is a USB type C port for charging purposes. The keyboard can be charged via a USB cable and the company claims a battery life of 36 hours. The keyboard also has two levels of risers that are helpful in offering a better typing angle, if the need arises.
That’s a simple question and the answer is yes. The Logitech G555 is a very useful and practical product not just for gaming but also for everyday use. The fact that it can be connected to a Bluetooth-enabled device adds a lot of value as well. How well does it do as a gaming keyboard, though?
The keyboard has dedicated RGB lighting under the A, S, D and W keys. More importantly, the keyboard allows gamers to get ample feedback from the keys which is essential for better gaming experiences. The keys have a mechanical feel to them which adds to the experience. Not only this, they are removable and replaceable. Customisation is a huge part of owning mechanical keyboard and gamers and content creators are especially deep into this.
I probably had the worst experience using the Logitech G515 Lightspeed TKL while editing videos on Premiere Pro. The thing is that after using chicklet-style keyboards in laptops for more than 5 years now, using a mechanical keyboard was a task. There was a steep learning curve as I had to get the keys right. Don’t get me wrong. It felt absolutely great using this keyboard for not only gaming but also for tasks like video editing, photo editing, typing up stories and writing emails. The keys felt amazing when I pressed them and the sound they made was something indescribable. Sheer melody, I’d say. The issue, however, was with me being able to adjust to the G515’s keys.
This is a very fun keyboard to use. That was my first impression of this product, from the moment I unboxed it. There are a multitude of things that make this keyboard “fun” to use. The most underrated feature, however, is its versatility. The best example of this is the fact that I used this keyboard with my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 for a whole day and absolutely loved it. The keyboard connects via Bluetooth and it is a breeze to operate.
The G-Hub app is much deeper than I imagined. The app opens up Pandora’s box of customisations for the G515 Lightspeed TKL. Users can assign customised commands, create presets and even create profiles.
The Logitech G515 TKL also utilises Logitech's Key Control technology. Similar to G-Shift, the Key Control feature allows users to remap and assign macros across their keyboards. But Key Control goes a bit further and lets users build layers to make more of the functionality in each key. In theory, that adds up to fifteen functions per key.
The most interesting feature, of course, is the Lightsync. Customise the keyboard's RGB lights as per your preference.
The Logitech G515 Lightspeed TKL is a well-crafted gaming keyboard and Logitech has done everything it could have possibly done to make it appealing to the gaming crowd. The minimalistic design only adds to this product's allure. Another thing that really makes the G515 Lightspeed appealing is its superb portability. I carry this keyboard in my 30-litre backpack everywhere I go. It is a part of my setup now. Add the G-Hub app support and the numerous connectivity options to this mix and you have a keyboard (gaming or non-gaming) that is simply fun to use. With a price tag of Rs 14,195 (could get it cheaper from e-commerce sites), this is a sweet product, if you ask me.
For gamers and esports players, the Logitech G515 Lightspeed TKL is a powerful tool that allows for a lot of scope for customisations and expands the envelope of creativity. The app support from Logitech G-Hub is the cherry on top. The app is easy to use, user-friendly and very intuitive.
