Dyson’s products are often associated with outlandish designs and top-notch performance. This is absolutely true but they do come at a cost. The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) is no different. In this review, we will cover everything from unboxing to the product's performance. Let’s begin.
Pros:
Cons:
Inside the huge box this product comes in, we have the main body unit, we have the air filters, a remote control and a user manual.
Installing the air filters is fairly easy and intuitive. I did not even need the user manual to install the filters in the right place. The instructional stickers on the body were a great help. After a few minutes of fitting and adjusting, the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde was ready to work.
The device can be operated via the remote control or the MyDyson smartphone app. Both work seamlessly. The application is available on both the Google Play store as well as App Store. The air purifier can be put on Auto mode which allows it to run without your input. On the other hand, you can also manually set the parameter by increasing or decreasing the filter speed.
Once you have turned on the air purifier, you can use the app to check things like the AQI, the level of the room humidity, the amount of PM2.5 and PM10 particles, HCHO levels (formaldehyde), NO2 levels and the room temperature. You can even check the concentration of VOCs in the room.
Some of the best-built products in the market are from Dyson and this is true for all of its products. As mentioned above, the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde is a brilliantly created product with a great design. The product stays true to the iconic Dyson design language. Frankly speaking, it looks like it was built on another planet. The remote control too, like the air purifier, is well crafted. But that's the thing about build quality. It's not just about the looks it is also about how that design facilitates functionality.
The cylindrical base of the air purifier consists of 360-degree air filters. The elongated oval-shaped structure at the top has blades that actually do the purifying bit of the job. The structure then projects the clean air out into the room. The air purifier has a 350-degree rotation, which is more than ample. There is a small LCD display at the bottom of the oval structure that displays important stats such as air quality, humidity, filter life etc.
The build quality overall is excellent and the design is pleasing to the eye. The main body is about 105 cm in height and 22 cm in breadth. Weighing in at only 4.86 kilograms, the Dyson TP09 is an ultra-lightweight air purifier that does everything a top-notch air purifier should do.
One thing that really caught my attention was the magnetised remote control that sits almost neatly on the head of the device. This design ingenuity is a lifesaver for people like me who have mastered the art of losing the remote control frequently.
As the name suggests, the product’s USP is its formaldehyde detection and filtration. Formaldehyde is an air pollutant and a carcinogen present in paints and glues. This setup does an extremely good job at constantly trapping and breaking down formaldehyde particles and disintegrating them into water and CO2 molecules. In the brand’s own words, the catalytic filter uses an electrochemical cell to detect formaldehyde molecules that are a whopping 500 times smaller than 0.1 microns. That is immensely tiny.
The effect that the TP09 has can be felt very quickly. The fully HEPA H13-sealed filters capture 99.95 per cent (claimed by the brand) of ultra-fine particles from the air such as PM2.5 and PM10 air pollutants. Lastly, courtesy of activated carbon, the device also successfully removes odours.
If you have INR 46,900 (MRP INR 59,900) to spare for clean and odour-free air, this is as perfect as an air purifier can get. For the buyers, the product has checked off two primary points from the get-go. It is not very on the price sheet like the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool and it delivers on its claim of elite air purifying.
From a performance aspect, the device does a number of things that makes it great. It catches and destroys formaldehyde, cleans the air of particles such as PM2.5 and PM10 and takes control of the humidity and odour of the space it is kept in. The best part is that I could actually see numbers that I had never seen before. At first, they seemed unreal but after some time reality set in and I realized how unclean the air in my room was.
The Dyson app is a great selling point of this product as it puts things in perspective. Shouting out that the air in our houses is polluted is one thing but backing that claim with numbers adds a lot of credibility and value.
It does lack the heating feature like its sibling, the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool, but considering that it is a Dyson product, it is understandable. Another really cool feature of this product is that it is really silent.
As far as the range of the air purifier is concerned, I’m still not sure about it. But it worked wonderfully in my 600 sq feet hall.
There you go, a great-performing product at a fairly high price. Additionally, whoever predicted that clean air will someday be expensive was right, indeed. With AQI in all major cities deteriorating every year, the need for good air purifiers is increasing as well. If your budget allows it, the Dyson TP09 would be a great purchase.
Until next time.
