American automaker Tesla has unveiled its new sports car Tesla Roadster and its first electric truck Semi at an event in Los Angeles. The unveiling was done by CEO of Tesla - Elon Musk.
With a base of $200,000 (approx. Rs 1.3 crore), the Tesla Roadster is available for bookings at a price of $50,000 (approx. Rs 32 lakh). The company has also announced bookings for Founders Series Roadsters, limited to the first 1,000 reservations, for $250,000 (approx. Rs 1.6 crore).
Even Tesla Semi can also be booked online.
New Tesla Roadster
This all-electric supercar, has a lightweight, removable glass roof stores in the trunk for an open-air, convertible driving experience.
Tesla Roadster is an 4-seater car and its all-wheel drive system gives out a top speed of over 250mph. The car can accelerate from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds, and from 0-100mph in 4.2 seconds.
Tesla Semi
Claimed by Tesla as the safest truck ever, Semi's enhanced Autopilot helps avoid collisions, a centered driver position provides maximum visibility and control, and a low center of gravity offers rollover protection.
Its four independent motors on rear axles led to an acceleration from 0-60mph in 20 seconds.
Tesla claims that Semi provides lower cost of ownership as the electric energy costs are half those of diesel. With fewer systems to maintain, the Tesla Semi provides $200,000+ in fuel savings.
