Riding on the success of Tata Tiago AMT, Indian automaker Tata Motors on Thursday (2 November) launched the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) variants of its compact sedan Tata Tigor.
With Tata Tigor AMT, the company aims to improve its market share by bringing in products that align with customers’ requirements.
With both the cars, now sporting AMT technology, the next step is to ponder upon the thought of which one is better. Which one of the two vehicles from Tata Motors’ stable, compact sedan Tata Tigor AMT and hatchback Tata Tiago AMT, is going to be a better buy for the consumers?
Both Tigor and Tiago have been given AMT in their XTA and XZA variants of petrol engine.
While Tata Tigor AMT has been priced at Rs 5.75 lakh (XTA) and Rs 6.22 lakh (XZA), Tata Tiago AMT is available for Rs 479,252 (XTA) and Rs 536,397 (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
The new Tigor AMT comes with Sports driving mode. It is equipped with four gear positions – Automatic, Neutral, Reverse and Manual.
The sedan comes with an in-built ‘creep’ feature, which enables the car to crawl as soon as the pressure is eased off the brake pedal, without pressing the accelerator.
Both the cars have been built embodying Tata Motors’ ‘Impact’ design philosophy.

Engine
Both Tata Tigor AMT and Tata Tiago AMT comes equipped with 1199cc, Revotron 1.2L, 3 cylinder petrol, BS-IV engine. It churns out 85PS of maximum power at 6000RPM, and 114Nm of maximum torque at 3500RPM.
They also sport multi-drive system with three different driving modes – Eco, City, and Sports modes.
Dimensions
Tata Tigor AMT – It measures 3992mm X 1677mm X 1537mm with 2450mm of wheelbase and 165mm of ground clearance. It has a boot space of 419L.
Tata Tiago AMT – It measures 3746mm X 1647mm X 1535mm with 2400mm of wheelbase and 165mm of ground clearance. It has a boot space of 242L.
Safety
Safety features for both the cars are again almost the same with. Some of the features are - Dual front airbags, Advanced ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control meant in case of emergency braking to maintain directional control, and Rear parking sensors.
