Tata Electronics has struck a strategic partnership with Tokyo Electron (TEL) to accelerate the development of semiconductor infrastructure for two major projects in India. The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding and will support Tata’s initiatives including the construction of India’s first semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat and an advanced assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam.
TEL will play a crucial role by providing semiconductor equipment, training Tata’s workforce, and contributing to ongoing improvement and research and development efforts.
“This strategic collaboration spans both front-end fabrication and back-end packaging technologies, highlighting our commitment to delivering exceptional support and value to Tata Electronics,” said Toshiki Kawai, President and CEO of Tokyo Electron.
With a combined investment of Rs 1.18 lakh crore, Tata Electronics is making large strides in India’s semiconductor industry. The Gujarat fab, with an investment of Rs 91,000 crore and the Assam facility, funded with Rs 27,000 crore, are slated to produce semiconductor chips for key applications across automotive, mobile devices, and artificial intelligence, aiming to serve a global market.
The partnership with TEL is being seen as a pivotal step in achieving Tata Electronics’ execution targets.
In a statement, Dr Randhir Thakur, Managing Director & CEO, Tata Electronics, said, “TEL has a history of working closely with its customers, and its expertise in the semiconductor equipment space will help build a dynamic ecosystem to support the timely execution of bringing up our Fab and advanced packaging factories. We are excited about the customer centricity that TEL brings to this partnership.”
