Indian start-up Layers has introduced its latest smartwatch, Anarc, which generated Rs 3 crore in sales within the first 24 hours of its release. Positioned as a mid-range option in the crowded smartwatch market, the device aims to balance design, functionality and affordability.
Anarc has an octagonal design, a departure from the standard square and circular formats. Designed in collaboration with Seymourpowell, a UK-based design firm, the smartwatch uses stainless steel and an IML back case to provide durability and a premium feel. Priced starting at Rs 6,999, the smartwatch caters to consumers seeking higher-end features at a relatively accessible price.
The device includes a 700-nit AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and Always-On Display functionality. Powered by a Hisilicon Advanced Chipset, it offers smooth performance and supports features like Bluetooth 5.2, on-device music storage and over 100 workout modes. Its 350mAh battery promises up to seven days of usage, with wireless charging and noise cancellation enhancing its utility.
Despite a higher price than competitors such as boAt and Noise, Anarc's initial sales show its appeal among consumers. According to Layers, the smartwatch was designed to fill the gap between basic models and luxury devices, offering advanced features without reaching premium price levels.
Layers entered the market in 2022 with mobile skins, generating over Rs 3 million in sales. The company collaborated with Indian and international design firms for Anarc, positioning it as a product that combines functionality with aspirational design. Anarc is available for purchase on the Layers website, with the company aiming to expand its footprint in India’s smartwatch market.
