After Salman Khan starrer ‘Tubelight’ has failed to make much of an impression at the domestic box office. Will this week’s new releases manage to attract the audience and the critics alike?
Releasing on Friday (7 July) Sridevi starrer ‘Mom’ clashes with ‘Guest Lin London’ and ‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ at the box office. It is predicted that ‘Mom’ is set to outperform ‘Guest Lin London’ at the box office.
Movie critic, Taran Adarsh tweeted, “MOM: Superb. What works Relevant theme, taut screenwriting, effective background score and skilled direction.”
‘Mom’ witnessed 20 per cent occupancy at the morning shows while occupancy for the morning shows of ‘Guest Lin London’ was as low as 10 per cent. With a good buzz around the movie and the positive word of mouth, ‘Mom’ is expected to soar over the weekend.
Starring Sridevi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna, Sajal Ali and Adnan Siddiqui, ‘Mom’ is a thriller that revolves around the story of a mother who decides to avenge the rape of her daughter.
The movie has released across 1806 screens worldwide, with 1260 screens in Hindi, 36 screens in Telugu, 27 screens each in Tamil and Malayalam at the domestic box office. The film has released across 456 screens overseas.
Sridevi was last seen in ‘English Vinglish’ that released in 2012. The movie was a huge success and this 300th film of her career, ‘Mom’ is expected to do a decent business over the weekend.
The other Bollywood release this week, ‘Guest Lin London’ that stars Paresh Rawal, Tanvie Azmi, Kartik Aryan and Kriti Kharbanda in key roles has registered a poor performance at the morning shows. After critics panning it for being a slapstick comedy, ‘Guest Lin London’ is not likely to take off at the box office over the weekend.
