Zupee, an Indian skill-based online gaming platform, has reached 100 million users, driven largely by its focus on digital versions of classic games like Ludo and Snakes & Ladders. The platform reports 6.6 billion gameplays, showing its suitable engagement in the country’s competitive online gaming market.
The gaming platform's expansion depicts a growing interest in skill-based gaming among Indian users, particularly through traditional games adapted for online play. Dilsher Malhi, Founder & CEO of Zupee, attributes the platform’s growth to a ‘modern twist on familiar classics.’ This combination of nostalgia and innovation appears to have struck a chord with a broad user base, as Zupee becomes a major player in India’s gaming market.
Along with its user growth, Zupee has implemented features to support responsible gaming. These include time and spending limits, part of an effort to address concerns around gaming addiction. The platform also employs random number generation (RNG) certification for fair play and utilises blockchain technology to enhance game security.
India’s gaming industry continues to boom, generating USD 3.8 billion in revenue in FY24 and claiming 30 per cent of India’s broader new media market, which reached USD 12.5 billion. A new report by Lumikai shows growth in mobile gaming, user engagement and monetisation, indicating that the market is on track to cross USD 9.2 billion by FY29, with a projected CAGR of 20 per cent.
