Writing down goals is considered to be a key step towards their eventual achievement. However, practical challenge that many people I have worked with have reported is that even after they write down their goals, there is still something that comes up on a daily basis which actually stops them from taking the required actions. Their reasonable concern is "how do we keep our goals in our consciousness all the time?" I found the answer in neuroscience that says that adding positive emotions to your goals would 'stamp' them in your consciousness. The pertinent question is "how do we generate these positive emotions?" In this article I would talk about six practical and powerful ways that would help you in generating these positive emotions. These are tried and tested techniques and a large number of people have reported success using these.
Bask in Uplifting Thoughts
Bring in the most uplifting and highly positive thoughts whenever you read, write or think about your top goals. Also, pay attention to how you are feeling inside of you. The more passionate you get about your goal the stronger is the hardwiring that happens in your mind in relation to this goal.
Visualize Yourself as Successful
Picture yourself getting successful with the goal, and see yourself celebrating and sharing your joy with people who matter to you. Imagine hearing the applause, getting hugs and handshakes. Feel the sensations in your entire body. Do everything that makes you imagine as if the triumph has happened now. Your mind does not distinguish between imagination and reality. When you see yourself mentally achieving your goal, you send chemical messages to your brain to record those images as if they are real with positive emotions attached.
Sell your goal to yourself
Talk to yourself about your goal regularly. Your tone should be as if you are selling that goal to yourself. Add strong emotions & feelings to your tone and tell your mind again and again the benefits of reaching the goal. List all these benefits so clearly such that you convince yourself how important it is for you to reach this goal. This is what we call as the 'why' of achieving your goal.
Regularly talk about your goals
Talk about your goals with people who believe in you. Describe to them with full enthusiasm and passion what you want to achieve. The more emotion you give the more the goals get hard wired in your mind. You should take this step to attach strong feelings to the images that you're creating in your mind in relation to your goals.
Listen to Inspiring Music
Listen to inspiring music whenever you are thinking, planning or taking any action in relation to your goals. Music has a soothing effect on your subconscious mind. Music can act as a strong anchor for achievement.
Exercise Regularly
Exercise your body regularly. This improves your mental state and also creates more positive emotions. Do aerobic exercises, jog for a distance, stretch, jump in rhythm or even dance. Improving your physical fitness and then being aware of that pleasant development generates stronger and healthier emotions. Physical movements immediately give an emotional uplift which is a key to get into a positive & healthier mental state.
Emotions get triggered by the above six steps and it will charge your mind and will enable the goals that you are targeting to get hard wired thereby helping you move in the direction of their achievement.
