A Year of Innovation
Beginning the year on a strong note, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad represented India in the FABLE consortium in January. The food, agriculture, biodiversity, land-use and energy (FABLE) consortium mobilises top knowledge institutions from 20 countries to support the development of decision-support tools and long-term pathways towards sustainable food and land-use systems.

Big Moves
IIM Ahmedabad has made numerous significant launches in the year 2021. February 2021 saw the launch of a multidisciplinary centre for transportation and logistics research to address critical passenger and freight transportation, and logistics challenges. Followed by the Ashank Desai Centre for Leadership and Organisational Development (ADCLOD) in June and the Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in
August.
IIM Ahmedabad also partnered with Bank of America to set up a Centre for Digital Transformation, to become a vibrant knowledge hub for academia, policymaking, and the private sector by facilitating cutting-edge research on digital transformation and innovation. It ended the year on a strong note with the launch of the Arun Duggal ESG Centre for
Research and Innovation.
The JSW School of Public Policy (JSW-SPP) at IIMA launched its Public Talk Series titled ‘India 2031: The Decade of Transformation’ today at the IIMA campus. Introducing JSW-SPP and the theme of the Public Talk Series ‘India 2031’, Namrata Chindarkar, Chairperson, JSW-SPP talked about the need for smart and evidence-based policymaking, which would entail engagement and dialogue with various stakeholders and collectively identifying the right steps for the next decade.
A Series of Highs
A team from the IIM Ahmedabad emerged as one of the eight national winners in the ‘Wipro Earthian College Awards 2020’ by the Wipro Foundation. The award program invited students to question and explore the nature of urban sustainability and gain a deeper understanding of urban sustainability challenges. The IIM Ahmedabad team highlighted the problem of Delhi’s biomedical waste during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The IIM Ahmedabad also welcomed the Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman, as she joined MBA students for an interactive session on the theme ‘The Economic Rebound and the Indian Economy in 2021 and Beyond’ with its students.
Furthermore, it hosted Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman of Hero Enterprises to deliver a lecture titled ‘Impact Leadership: An India Story’ organised by its Ashank Desai Centre for Leadership and Organisational Development (ADCLOD). The talk was organised as part of the IIMA Lecture Series at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA).
Most significantly, IIM Ahmedabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). As per this agreement, it will offer the custom-designed ‘Sarabhai Management Development Programme for senior executives of DAE Organisations’. This is the first in a series of management development programmes that IIMA will offer under the aegis of this agreement.
