Senior Congress leader Ajay Singh Yadav has stepped down as OBC Department President after a humiliating defeat in Haryana. "I have sent my resignation letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s ji from Chairman AICC OBC Department and also from primary membership of Indian National Congress party,” he said.
Yadav claimed in an interview that the position he was offered was an eyewash. Yadav told news agency ANI that there are no OBCs from South Haryana in the CWC, CEC, or Haryana Pradesh Committee. The senior leader claimed that the Congress suffered because of the party's disregard for Gurgaon, Mahendragarh, Rewari, and Faridabad.
Rahul Gandhi has been criticising the NDA administration and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for OBC representation in the Center, BJP's Amit Malviya took aim at the Congress. He claimed that despite Rahul Gandhi's discussion of caste, the Congress's backward castes are not even treated with respect.
"Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, Chairman of the AICC OBC, chastised Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership for failing to provide SC, ST, and OBCs with sufficient representation in the CWC and CEC. He has now resigned. compelled?" he questioned.
Days after the loss in Haryana, Yadav blamed a number of leaders for the failure. He called attention to errors made in ticket distribution, power concentration, and the absence of OBC representation in important decision-making organisations.
"As the Chairman of the OBC, I think it is appropriate to invite the leaders of the SC-ST to the sessions of the Extended Working Committee. The SC-ST and OBC departments cannot be compared to other departments, like the Hindi or Professional Departments. During an interview with a TV broadcaster, Yadav stated, "These things need to change with time, and the party needs to evolve its strategies and functioning,” he added.
Yadav, who has held positions in Haryana and the Central government, claimed that only two or three of his proposed fifteen to sixteen candidates for assembly poll tickets were picked. If members of his neighbourhood realised he had no influence in the party, he implied, they would not support him.
