Samsung announced its new flagship smartphone duo, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month and the handsets have now made their way to India. Both the new handsets carry over the design language that Samsung introduced on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. So once again you get a metal and glass finish but there are some upgrades and refinements.
The handsets feel premium and have a curved and super glossy finish which easily attracts fingerprints. The phones are now waterproof and you get a expandable microSD card expansion slot which has made a comeback as this feature was omitted from all the major flagships last year. Both the handsets have a larger battery pack compared to last year, a 3,000mAh unit on the S7 and the 3,600mAH one the S7 Edge. On the inside there an Exynos 8890 octa-core chipset with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB variants. Both the handsets support quick charging as well as wireless charging. The handsets will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung's TouchWiz UI.
The new handsets feature an always on display feature that basically shows you the time, notifications and calendar events even when your display is off. This feature is said to help in saving battery as you don't activate the display every now and then. The display quality is one of the best in any smartphone today, a 5.1-inch panel on the S7 and a 5.5-inch curved unit on the S7 Edge both of which are sharp, high in contrast and really bright.
There is a new 12MP primary camera with a dual-pixel technology and an f/1.7 aperture that will be capable of shooting great pictures in low light. It works really fast and super accurate and Samsung has definitely put an effort to perfect the camera.
With pricing starting at Rs. 48,900 and Rs. 56,900 both the handsets are available for pre-order from today and consumers opting for this option get a free Samsung VR headset. Samsung will also offer a ‘Double data’ offer on Vodafone. Both the smartphones will be available from 18th of March in Black Onux, Gold Platinum and Silver Titanium color options. For after sale service, the company announced Samsung Concierge which offers an exclusive experience including pick and drop service as well as live service chat with Samsung customer care.
