Amazon has announced that Samir Kumar will take over as the country manager for India, effective 1 October 2024, following Manish Tiwary’s departure from the role in August.
Kumar has been with Amazon since 1999 and was instrumental in the launch of Amazon India in 2013 and currently oversees Amazon’s consumer businesses in the Middle East, South Africa and Turkey.
In his new role, Kumar will inherit operational responsibilities for Amazon’s Indian market while continuing his current regional duties. He is collaborating closely with Tiwary to ensure a seamless transition.
“India remains an important priority for Amazon, and I am super excited about the opportunity ahead as we continue to transform lives and livelihoods,” said Agarwal in a statement.
Under Kumar’s leadership, the current India leadership team—comprising Saurabh Srivastava (categories), Harsh Goyal (everyday essentials), Amit Nanda (marketplace), and Aastha Jain (growth initiatives)—will report directly to him. Additionally, Kishore Thota, responsible for emerging markets shopping experience, will report to Amazon executive Agarwal.
