At the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm Technologies revealed its partnership with Mistral AI to bring the company's latest generative AI models—Ministral 3B and Ministral 8B—into Snapdragon-powered devices. These models will be available on a range of Snapdragon platforms, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for smartphones, Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Ride Elite for automotive systems and the Snapdragon X Series Compute Platforms for AI-powered PCs.
Mistral AI's Ministral 3B and Ministral 8B models are designed for on-device use, offering features like enhanced privacy, lower latency and improved reliability by eliminating the need for cloud-based processing. This makes them suitable for applications in smartphones, automotive systems, PCs and other connected devices. The models’ compact nature also allows for efficient energy use and reduced costs in processing AI tasks locally.
As per Qualcomm Technologies, this collaboration aligns with their strategy to advance edge computing, enabling AI-driven experiences directly on devices. The models will support applications such as AI assistants and other tools designed to understand user behaviour, benefiting from the responsiveness and security of on-device processing.
Developer Access And Future Prospects
Mistral AI and Qualcomm Technologies are working to make the Ministral models accessible to developers through the Qualcomm AI Hub. Developers currently have access to Mistral’s earlier models, such as Mistral 7B v0.3 and the new Ministral 3B and 8B models are expected to be available soon.
This collaboration is part of a broader effort to expand the capabilities of AI on devices, helping developers and manufacturers create applications that leverage local AI processing. The companies aim to foster innovation in AI technology across various industries, from consumer electronics to automotive applications.
