Delhi Chief Minister Atishi was ordered to leave the bungalow in Civil Lines, which was once owned by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, two days after she moved in. The Public Works Department (PWD), which she is in charge of, made the request.
The debate surrounding the CM's home has been more intense as a result of this occurrence. Although Atishi moved in after fulfilling the required processes, according to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), there has not been a formal handover of the property from Kejriwal, according to the PWD.
The Chief Minister's office referred to the action as unprecedented and stated, "The Chief Minister has been asked to leave her house for the first time in the history of the country." At the BJP's request, the L-G took CM Atishi's possessions by force. The L-G is getting ready to assign a prominent BJP politician to the CM's house. After living in exile in Delhi for 27 years, the BJP now seeks to seize the CM's home.
Kejriwal had left the home last Friday after resigning on 17 September after being released on bail. While Atishi is in possession of the keys, PWD officials verified that she is missing an official allotment letter. According to sources, PWD representatives showed up at the bungalow on Wednesday morning and took the keys from Atishi by the afternoon.
This is not the first controversy surrounding the residence. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress both criticized Kejriwal and his party last year over claims of irregularities in the building's restoration. Kejriwal was originally given the house in 2015, and it was reconstructed in 2020–21.
