PSPCL’s Move Towards Digital India- MOU Between PSPCL & SBI For Payment Of Electricity Bills Through RTGS ​

Taking a further step towards digitization, today, PSPCL took the initiative and partnered with SBI, the largest bank in India by entering into a MOU with the Bank, regarding collection of electricity bills through RTGS mode. This scheme will be operational very shortly. The MOU was signed by Sh. Harpal Singh, Chief Accounts Officer/ Revenue, PSPCL and Smt. Nishi Bhatnagar, DGM/B&O, SBI, in the presence of Sh. SC Arora, Director Finance, PSPCL and Sh. Sanjay Kumar, GM/Network, SBI and other senior officers from both sides. Now, after this scheme becomes operational, PSPCL consumers can easily pay their electricity bills at their convenience at any bank branch and thus can save their precious time from queues at cash counters. Initially, this facility will be available to high end consumers like Large consumers, Mobile Tower Companies, Sewa Kendras and Govt. connections through non-challan based mode (including bulk RTGS), which may be extended to other categories of the consumers also. It is one of the big initiatives being taken for promotion of Digital Payment methods.

Speaking on the occasion, PSPCL’s Director Finance, Sh. SC Arora said, “PSPCL is completely dedicated on using IT technology for making the things easy for consumers   and making the idea of ‘reform via technology’ a reality. PSPCL has already given various facilities of E-payment like Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, Paytm etc. But, it was observed that collection from Industrial and Government consumers was almost practically restricted to Cash Collection Counters only, due to various reasons like non-availability of transaction rights, fear of big amount online transactions etc. As such, with the view to further promote online collection of electricity bills from these categories too, PSPCL is happy to join hands with SBI to enable swift, smooth and simple bill payment experience. Consumers can visit any of the bank branches as per their convenience and can transact through RTGS. We anticipate that PSPCL consumers will find this service very convenient and worthwhile. Associating with SBI will help us making the bill payment facility more accessible to the consumers across Punjab.” 

Speaking on the joint venture, Sh. Sanjay Kumar, GM/SBI told that “SBI being the largest bank will make full endeavors to fulfill the expectations of the industry regarding such digital modes and electricity consumers of Punjab are going to get a very seamless service of bill payments via RTGS”.
