Data centre operator Princeton Digital Group (PDG) is expanding in India with plans to invest approximately USD 1 billion to increase its data centre capacity to 230 megawatts (MW) across the country.
This initiative is part of the company's broader USD 5 billion investment programme, which focuses on developing AI-ready data centres across Asia, including in key markets such as Indonesia and Malaysia.
A big portion of this investment will be directed towards expanding PDG’s flagship campus in Mumbai, MU1. The company will add three new buildings, tripling the campus’s capacity to 150 MW. The first phase of the expansion is slated for completion by 2026. Once fully operational, the MU1 campus will span approximately 15 acres, making it one of the largest data center campuses in the region.
In addition to its Mumbai expansion, PDG is making its entry into Chennai, a crucial cloud hub in India. The new 72 MW AI-ready data center campus, CH1, will be built on 9.3 acres of land in the northern part of the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Both the Mumbai and Chennai campuses will be equipped with cutting-edge technology to support high-density data deployments and advanced cooling systems.
“India is well positioned to be a global AI leader, and we are determined to be play an important role in making that happen. As one of the fastest growing data center operators, our USD 1 billion investment in India is testament to our deep commitment to the country’s AI and cloud ecosystems,” said Rangu Salgame, Chairman, CEO and Co-founder, PDG.
