Amidst the ongoing financial crisis in Sri Lanka, President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Sunday assured of fixing the debt-ridden country by treating the "root cause" of the malaise and not by administering "painkillers."
The president in his series of tweets suggested systematic change and national unity in conjunction with economic reforms can help the country to achieve prosperity.
He further pointed out many of his decisions as unpopular. But this will not let any of my fellow citizens starve or die in queues, he added.
He said, despite the obstacles, I believe in continuing the reforms in a united and planned manner that is likely to make the country develop by 2048.
True freedom can be achieved by collective responsibility and would help in building our new country, wherein our children can compete in the world, the president tweeted.
While Wickremesinghe expressed his gratitude towards the honourable, who strived for the country, he backlashed the politicians borrowing for personal consumption and not for the nation’s well-being, a grave reason for the collapse of the Sri Lankan economy.
He tweeted, strengthening the country’s economy is not the only solution, the whole system needs a reboot.
He added the measures taken to maximise the division of power in a unitary state and the disagreement towards the nation’s division. Further emphasising the issues faced in the north and east as already solved.
The president tweeted a day after Sri Lanka celebrated its 75th Independence Day his optimistic approach towards the country’s dwindling situation.
