Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought a unique charm to the celebration of Igas Bagwal, Uttarakhand’s traditional folk festival, at BJP MP Anil Baluni's residence in Delhi. The event, which included prominent leaders such as Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President JP Nadda, celebrated Uttarakhand’s rich heritage and added special significance with the PM’s presence.
Dressed in a traditional Uttarakhandi cap, PM Modi performed rituals by lighting the ceremonial Igas flame and offering prayers to the cow and Tulsi plant, respecting local customs. Igas Bagwal, also known as Budhi Diwali, is observed on the 11th day after Diwali. It’s a day for cultural pride, marked by traditional dances and community events across Uttarakhand.
Other eminent personalities who attended the festival include Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India and J.P Nadda Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers of India among others.
In his message to Uttarakhandis, PM Modi extended heartfelt greetings on this special occasion, highlighting the importance of preserving local customs. The festive spirit was palpable, as guests and attendees, including sadhus and saints, enjoyed a mix of cultural programs and folk performances, embodying the essence of the state’s traditions.
The celebration at Baluni’s residence saw a strong response, with people expressing pride in their heritage. The Prime Minister’s involvement has further boosted enthusiasm for Igas Bagwal, encouraging Uttarakhandi communities everywhere to connect with their roots. This occasion also underscored the commitment of senior leaders in promoting cultural diversity within India.
