The 105th session of Indian Science Congress, a gathering of scientific luminaries from across the world, will be held at Osmania University (OU), Hyderabad from 3-7 January 2018, said professor Achyuta Samanta, general president of the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) and founder of KUT and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Kolkata on Wednesday.
"A committee was formed under the chairmanship of Ashok Saxena, former president of ISCA, to select the venue for 105th Indian Science Congress. Five reputed universities, including KIIT, had applied to host the session. After detailed consideration, the committee recommended Osmania University," Samanta said, elaborating on the selection process.
Osmania University is one of the best, most prestigious and progressive universities of India. Having completed 100 years, it will also be celebrating its centenary in 2018.
"We selected Osmania University to host the forthcoming Indian Science Congress. Osmania University gladly accepted it and gave their consent to host the event," Samanta said.
The Indian Science Congress is the country's oldest and biggest science meet, attended by top academicians, researchers and scientists, including Nobel laureates from India and abroad, besides policy makers, Union and state ministers. It is traditionally inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India. One hundred and five scientists from different parts oflndia and abroad attended.
Organised annually by ISCA, it is hosted by a reputed institution in different parts of the country. ISCA, supported by the government of lndia, is the oldest and biggest scientific organization with more than 60,000 academicians and scientists as members. The Congress is held under the leadership of an elected general president.
The Congress was initiated from West Bengal and the first session was held from 15-17 January 1914 at the Asiatic Society in Calcutta. Justice Asutosh Mukherjee, the then vice-chancellor of the Calcutta University was its first president.

The Indian Science Congress Association celebrated its 100th year on 2 June 2012 and the centenary session was held at Kolkata in 2013 under the presidentship of then-prime minister of India Manmohan Singh.
