San Francisco-based AI startup Anthropic launched a new chatbot technology for business applications on Wednesday.
Named Claude 3, this technology is part of a suite of AI models that Anthropic claims surpass those offered by industry rivals such as Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google. This launch places Anthropic in direct competition not only with other AI developers but also potentially with its own investors, Alphabet and Amazon.
Claude 3 was made available through an app for Apple’s iPhones and carries a subscription cost of USD 30 per user per month, requiring a minimum of five users. This pricing positions Claude 3 competitively against similar offerings from OpenAI, which are also targeted at the business sector at the same price point.
One of the standout features of Claude 3 is its capacity to process vast amounts of data—roughly equivalent to two books—and perform complex tasks such as summarizing, analysing or extracting specific information.
Anthropic said that Claude 3 is particularly adept at managing a mix of structured and unstructured data, which enables it to perform tasks ranging from generating investment reports for finance teams to assisting engineering groups in managing large codebases and helping sales teams strategise on major client acquisitions.
Anthropic’s president, Daniela Amodei, elaborated on Claude 3’s capabilities in an interview with Reuters, noting its proficiency in synthesising information from various formats such as charts, PDFs and communication platforms like Slack. This makes it an invaluable tool for companies needing concise summaries and insights from diverse data sources related to business activities like product launches or earnings reports.
