Established in 1981 by Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) trust and a generous donation from Narsee Monjee Educational Trust, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is a deemed management institute of the University of Mumbai.
Since its inception, NMIMS has grown into a flourishing university, offering courses and programmes across various disciplines such as management, technology, science, pharmacy, architecture, commerce and economics. Today, the institute has over 5,000 students and more than 430 permanent and 200 visiting faculty members. The faculty at the institute is an eclectic mix of industry and academic as well as national and international experiences.
Recently, global e-commerce giant Alibaba launched its “Global E-commerce Talents” programme in India at some select colleges, which includes NMIMS, too. The institute offers some specialised courses that include Integrated MBA Family Business, Weekend Family Managed Business Administration Programme, Diploma in Social Entrepreneurship, Enterprise Training Programme for Women, and IICA Certificate Programme in CSR.
NMIMS has partnered with Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs to offer an online IICA Certificate Programme in CSR for developing trained and certified CSR professionals in the country. This provides an opportunity for students to receive a global standard of professional training from the premier institute for corporate affairs.
The faculty members have a number of publications to their credit and are also involved in research and consultancy activities, which are needed to keep them abreast of the ever-changing and evolving corporate world. It also invites several top-class faculty from universities abroad to teach students at the institute.
The institute has a partnership with the Harvard Business School for a Faculty Development Programme and has nominated faculties to participate in the HBS Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning Programme at the Harvard University, Boston, USA. Besides, the India Site License Agreement signed with Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP) ensures electronic access to HBSP materials.
Students get to go on an international internship and collaboration programme for a period of two weeks in Europe conducted by GreenContributor — a Canadian-based organisation. It encourages them to apply the tools of design thinking, customer observation, brainstorming, and prototyping, developing new products and services for local SMEs to international large-scale enterprises.
“The teaching at NMIMS is interactive and helps us build ability to think and find solutions ourselves. Most of our faculty holds a doctorate and are experts in their field. It is a pleasure to learn from them,” says Shreya Das, 25, a first year student of HR at NMIMS.
Recently, JLL India, one of the leading real-estate research firms, partnered with NMIMS to offer job-ready Real Estate Management Programme. This field of specialisation in ‘Real Estate Consulting & Transaction Services‘ will be given to technology management students. Delivered through Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, the Technology Management School of NMIMS, the courses will be co-designed and integrated into the 5-year MBA (Tech.) programme.
The NMIMS School of Business Management, Mumbai has had a cracker of a placement season this year. From amongst the 160 companies for 565 students across programmes, 45 participated for the first time and a few visited after a hiatus. The recruiter portfolio comprised a healthy mix of recruiters from traditional sectors and fast growing startups and e-commerce firms.
