Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has sanctioned over Rs 2,380 crore for various road projects across Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Goa. These projects aim to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and spur economic growth in key regions.
In Maharashtra, Rs 809.77 crore has been approved for the rehabilitation and upgrade of National Highway 63, which links the districts of Latur and Nanded with Telangana’s Nizamabad. The project involves upgrading the Udgir-Degalur and Adampur Fata-Sagroli Fata sections to two-lane roads with paved shoulders. The improved connectivity is expected to boost industrial and agricultural activities in Udgir, Mukramabad, and Degalur, while also serving as an important link between the mineral-rich Marathwada region and parts of Telangana, creating new job opportunities and stimulating local economies.
Andhra Pradesh will see an infusion of Rs 400 crore for the development of 13 state roads, spanning 200.06 kilometers, under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme. Additionally, Rs 98 crore has been allocated for the construction of a four-lane road overbridge on the Guntur-Nallapadu railway section in Guntur district. This project is expected to ease traffic and improve connectivity in the region, addressing long-standing transport bottlenecks.
Telangana has secured Rs 516 crore for the construction of a four-lane bypass for Nalgonda Town, which is part of the Nakrekal-Nagarjuna Sagar section of National Highway 565. The new bypass aims to reduce congestion in Nalgonda, which currently experiences heavy traffic, and will improve road safety while enhancing connectivity between Nakrekal and Nagarjuna Sagar.
In Goa, Rs 557 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a 9.6 km four-lane stretch from Ponda to Bhoma on National Highway 748. This project will close a critical gap between the four-lane sections of Khandepar to Ponda and the Ribandar bypass, facilitating smoother traffic between Panaji and Ponda. It will also improve interstate connectivity with Karnataka and provide better access to Dabolim Airport and Mormugao Port. The expansion is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce accidents in the area, which has been plagued by frequent traffic incidents.
