During the Snapdragon for India event in 2024, Qualcomm revealed that its partnership with Reliance Jio had been extended. Through the partnership, 5G technologies that are reasonably priced will be available in India, with an emphasis on improving digital infrastructure. An important step towards ensuring that 5G technology is affordable for a larger audience is the recently introduced Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processor’s anticipated usage in Jio 5G devices that retail for around Rs 10,000.
Sunil Dutt, President of Reliance Jio, underlined both businesses' dedication to developing a strong digital infrastructure in India. He said that in order to provide constant connection through reasonably priced 5G technology, Jio and Qualcomm are collaborating. Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 mobile platform, which promises up to 1 GB of download speed and 5G connectivity for entry-level handsets.
Mr. Dutt emphasised that in order to provide 5G services to every Indian, Jio and Qualcomm are working with a number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Low latency, increased data rates, network efficiency and cutting-edge technologies like network slicing and edge computing are the main goals of this partnership. Savi Soin, the CEO of Qualcomm India, claims that both Jio and Qualcomm are preparing to roll out 5G services throughout India.
Based on a 4nm process, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 has an octa-core CPU with two performance cores operating at 2 GHz and six efficiency cores operating at 1.8 GHz. It also supports a 32 MP sensor or two 16 MP lenses. In addition to supporting LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1 and dual-band NavIC for improved accuracy, it can manage FHD+ displays with refresh rates of up to 90 Hz.
This announcement follows Qualcomm Ventures' Rs 730 crore 2020 investment in Jio Platforms, demonstrating the company's ongoing dedication to promoting digital connectivity in India. Through this agreement, the country's adoption of 5G technology will be accelerated by taking use of Jio's extensive market reach and Qualcomm's technological know-how.
