Before National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, education was static, there was a huge gap between education and the life pattern of the children, Education was isolated from the making of the youngsters, said Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana & Lieutenant Governor of Pudducherry at the ASSOCHAM EduTech 100 Summit ''Digital Distinction: Technology Conformance to NEP''
Recalling the status of education during the pandemic, Soundararajan added, ‘‘The lifeline of education during the pandemic was online education.’’
She also emphasised the significance of regional language and mother tongue in a child’s life, and said, ‘‘As a doctor, I know till 8 years the brain of a child can learn numbers of languages, alphabets and words, we are wasting that potential. The 3-language policy will open new opportunities and broaden the horizons for children.’’
Further, the Governor of Telangana also focused on the nutrition and mental health of the children, and said, “Mental health of students is another critical area where we need to work hard, the psychology of the children needs to be taken care of.’’
Appreciating the new regulations under NEP 2020, Soundararajan said that the NEP has provisions that fill the gap as it aligns with the mindset of the children, and teachers.
Concluding her address, the Governor of Telangana said that let students enjoy their education, which is also the core objective of the National Education Policy 2020.
Tamilisai has an extra charge of Lieutenant Governor of Pudducherry along with the Governor of Telangana. Apart from this, she has an MBBS degree in gynaecology. Prior to entering into the ambit of politics, she worked as an assistant professor at Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai for 5 years.
