Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Human Resource Development has directed the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti(NVS) to adopt solar energy. He also directed that water and solar energy harvesting should form part of proposals in the new building plans and explore the possibility of having water harvesting and Bio-Gas plants in existing campuses.
At the 35th meeting of the Executive Committee of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti in New Delhi on Thursday (31st August), the minister asked the Samiti to seek guidance and counsel of the Ministry of Power to execute the process.
According to a statement from the ministry, he applauded the performance of Navodaya Vidyalaya students in classes 10th and 12th. He further talked about the performance of NV students in IIT JEE(Advanced) and NEET. He noted with satisfaction that out of the 14183 NV students who appeared in NEET, 11875 qualified in the examination of which over 7000 are already placed in various good medical colleges.
The Minster further added that Navodaya Vidyalayas have become a brand for quality education and the recent successes have further enhanced its brand.
Moreover, for reviewing the functioning of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, the minister asked the body to conduct study of positive impact of students and teachers living together, teachers living together in school campuses and health improvement of students.
Javadekar further added that the teachers who are deputed for training abroad through scholarship should be asked to share a report on their learning and its utility for the system.
