National Flag Prices Hiking Daily; Nation To Celebrate Amrit Mahotsav

Ashish Sahu, 31, is happy as the demand for the national flag is skyrocketing immediately after the government has launched a campaign "Har Ghar Tiranga" to formally entrust Indians with the personal responsibility of respecting the national flag. "People are buying more flags than usual this year", added Sahu, a vendor at Sakchi Market, Jamshedpur. 

Price Hike of National Flag

Sahu, the flag vendor said, "We are unable to get the stocks of tricolours as its demand is so high this year. A small sized flag that was sold at Rs 25 previously, is now being sold at Rs 55, the price is expected to rise with the coming couple of days till 15 August."

Mudassir Hussain, one of the flag vendors near Amar Market said that in the past years we used to sell flags 1-2 days before the 15th of August, but this year we had started our stalls 1 week prior, that's because there is vast number of orders for the flags. We have ordered stocks of tricolours from Kolkata this year."

As PM Narendra Modi has urged people to pin a tricolour on their homes from August 13 to 15, there has been a hike in the sale of flags in the market as compared to other years on the occasion of Independence Day. There are just two to three days left for the historic day to arrive, and national flags can be seen fluttering in every shop and stall from now.

Good Initiative for employment of flag makers

Many women from rural areas are provided orders of stitching tricolours through this campaign. Apart from that, a maximum of 80,000 tricolours have been stocked, the local post office said.

In June, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) reported that the flag makers are receiving wild growth in the orders of stitching tricolours. For this, CAIT also urged traders to observe ‘Tiranga Mahotsav’ from August 13 to 15 with a slogan ‘Ghar-Ghar Tiranga, Dukan-Dukan Tiranga’. Generally, there is a great demand for 9×6, 18×12, 16×24, 20×30, and 53×35 sized flags in the markets.

Since the Modi government announced the Tiranaga Mahotsav, many political, social and trade organisations have been carrying out Tiranga rallies or Tiranaga march in respect of the campaign. The Singhbum Chamber of Commerce & Trade bought 300 national flags for carrying out a march on August 14.

Public's View

A lot of enthusiasm among the residents could be seen regarding the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. National flags are pinned already in some shops and houses. The residents said, "Tiranga is the symbol of our country's independence, and we all should celebrate it by respecting the flag."

Shahid Parwez, BJP member, Jharkhand said, "Every citizen should participate in PM Modi's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign as it is like a diamond jubilee of our nation's freedom, so I suggest everyone should take part." When asked about the views of many political leaders on that putting a flag may not define patriotism, Parwez said, "Every parent loves their child but if they do not express that, it can not be claimed that they love their child. Similarly, patriotism towards our country should be expressed, and if it is through putting national flags at our home then it's no harm."

PM Modi has appealed the people of India to pin a tricolor atop of their houses from August 13-15.
