The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has forged a significant partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra to conduct two Pilot Projects under the Drone Didi Yojana. The scheme, aimed at training 15,000 women to operate drones for agricultural purposes, seeks to create new livelihood opportunities by imparting skills in emerging technology areas.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of MSDE, Dr. Anish Shah, Group CEO & MD of Mahindra Group, and senior officials from MSDE. These projects mark a crucial step towards empowering rural women in agriculture through comprehensive training initiatives.
Tiwari highlighted the collaboration's significance in advancing the mission of upskilling women for nation-building. He emphasised how this initiative aligns with the Ministry's vision to equip women with the necessary skills to contribute meaningfully to socio-economic growth.
Building on past successful collaborations, Tiwari expressed optimism about the fruitful outcomes of this partnership. Through rigorous training methodologies and hands-on learning experiences, the initiative aims to equip women with practical skills and competencies essential for their success in emerging fields.
Dr. Anish Shah reiterated Mahindra & Mahindra commitment to empowering women through skills development. He emphasised the company's "Rise" philosophy, stating their dedication to enabling women to join the workforce and achieve financial independence.
Under the partnership, two Pilot Projects will be conducted at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) centres in Hyderabad and Noida. The curriculum, approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will employ 500 women in exclusive batches. Mahindra Group will provide initial setup support and cover operating costs for the duration of the projects.
The outcomes from these Pilot Projects will inform MSDE's strategy for scaling up the Drone Didi Yojana nationwide. Mahindra & Mahindra plans to extend drone training to its skilling centres in Zaheerabad, Telangana, and Nagpur, Maharashtra, further supporting the scheme's objectives.
The collaboration between MSDE and Mahindra & Mahindra underscores a concerted effort to empower women in agriculture through technological advancements. By equipping women with drone-operating skills, the initiative aims to enhance their participation in the workforce and foster economic growth in rural areas.
