Microsoft has pledged to invest 14.7 billion reais (USD 2.70 billion) in Brazil over the next three years to improve its cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence capabilities in the country. This is Microsoft's largest single investment in Brazil.
The investment is part of the bigger ‘Microsoft Mais Brazil’ program, which began in 2020 and aims to strengthen the company's long-term commitment to Brazil. Over the next three years, Microsoft wants to develop its cloud and AI infrastructure in São Paulo, as well as deliver AI training to almost 5 million Brazilians. The company forecasts that widespread AI use could boost Brazilian economic growth by up to 4.2 percentage points by the end of the decade.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated, "We are committed to supporting the AI transformation in Brazil and ensuring it benefits everyone." Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin shared this attitude, claiming that the investment places Brazil as a potential global AI leader, citing the country's renewable energy resources for powering data centres.
This considerable investment is consistent with the increased focus on AI technology in Brazil and throughout Latin America, as countries seek to reap the economic benefits of digital transformation.
