Marksheets Will Mention If Grace Marks Are Allotted: CBSE
Spiking of marks in class 10th and 12th CBSE boards is likely to be stopped beginning next year. Though the moderation policy of the school boards will continue so that there is an overall uniformity in the evaluation process but from now on, mark sheets will mention whether grace marks have been awarded to the student or not.
This recommendation was made at the inter-board meeting that has members from Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Telangana, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Manipur and ICSE Boards.
These recommendations will now be sent to the Union HRD Ministry so that various states can adopt and implement these too. This group was formed to look into the issues related to the moderation policy.
The group has also decided that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will develop sample question papers that will be distributed to all school boards so that there is an overall uniformity in the level of question papers.
It has also been suggested by this group that moderation should continue so that appropriate compensation can be provided to students in accordance with the level of difficulty of question papers and the overall evaluation process.
Even though grace marks will continue to be allotted to students and the mark sheet will mention if the student has passed due to grace marks, it will not mention the extra marks awarded to him or her.
According to a report by HT, one of the members of the group said, “Students who pass without grace marks will at least get some priority through this. At the same time rather than failing a student who narrowly misses the marks such students will also be passed.”
