International Maritime Institute launched its ‘Full Mission and Desktop Based Engine Room Simulator for ME Engine/RT Flex Engine and LNG Bunkering’ programme under the new training initiative of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Celebration on Tuesday the 22 March.
The simulator training will further develop the competencies and professionalism of MEO class 1, MEO class 2, MEO Class 4 Engineering officers & marine engineering cadets, through the use of simulator technology.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was none other than the Director General of Shipping, Amitabh Kumar, IRS himself while the Guest of Honour was Shri Prabhat Jha, Group Managing Director and CEO of MSC Shipmanagement Limited, Cyprus.
Many illustrious members of the shipping fraternity like Captain Mahendra Pal Bhasin (Managing Director, MSC) along with many senior superintendents from MSC Ship management, Captain Rajendra Poswal (SIC MMD Noida), Captain Virendra Yadav (Deputy General Manager, MMSI), Captain Indresh Kharbanda (General Manager, Executive Shipping), to name a few attended the event.
Prabhat Jha along with Capt Bhasin visited the new IMI Campus which is located in Sonpeda about 25 kms from the existing campus and they were impressed with the progress of construction for hostel and administration block for GP Rating, CMCC course and the mock up for Advance Fire Fighting and PSCRB which is nearing its completion.
The event was flagged off by the arrival of Shri Prabhat Jha, who received a warm welcome from Capt. Saurabh Varshney, the Head of Institute and everyone present in the extravaganza. Following which, Deck and Engine Cadets of MSC were addressed by the man himself, Shri Prabhat Jha, who then took a tour of the institute, admiring IMI’s best in class infrastructure. Additionally, working models of machineries used onboard ships, constructed by the cadets were also praised by Prabhat Jha.
Upon the much-anticipated arrival of the Chief Guest, Amitabh Kumar, was greeted with a standing ovation from the audience, a reverential March past, salute by each of the four platoons and a guard of honor by IMI cadets.
“In line with our commitment to impart world class training this Full Mission Engine Room Simulator & Desk top based engine room simulator has the latest ME Electronic engine, RT Flex Electronics Engine, MEGI electronic engine with LNG Bunkering and advanced features like Ballast water treatment, Exhaust Gas Scrubber,” said Capt. Varshney in his welcome address, which was lauded by the honorable guests and everyone present at the event.”
He added, “Today’s event forms a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations, an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence. I am happy to inform you that IMI is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.”
Prabhat Jha addressed the august gathering. “It always gives me immense pleasure to visit International Maritime Institute. We are always delighted to meet the cadets and learn about the progress of this institute,” mentioned Prabhat Jha.
“It gives me immense happiness to come to IMI. I wish them the very best for the simulator room and all their future endeavors.” stated Amitabh Kumar in his address to the guests, dignitaries and cadets, which left everyone cheering.
