Lenovo has some good numbers under its belt when it comes to its smartphone business in India and ever since it took over Motorola, the company has become more aggressive in the low to mid-ranged smartphone segments. The newest handset from the Chinese smartphone maker is an update to the A6000 series but adopts the name combination of two other series of smartphones, which is somewhat confusing.
The Vibe K5 Plus is a budget smartphone and unlike the name it is compact in size and also has a so-called metal finish. Priced at Rs 8,499 it definitely sounds good on paper and even looks good. It comes with a 5-inch full HD display which looks sharp and fairly good for something priced so cheap. The back is said to have a metal finish but upon close inspection it feels more like plastic. Oh and the back panel is removable and so is the battery. Rest of the features include a Snapdragon 616 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage. You do get expandable storage which supports up to 128GB of microSD cards. There is a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP camera on the front, a 2,750mAH battery and it will be running on Android 5.1.
Lenovo has confirmed that this handset will support the TheaterMax VR headset (sold separately) that the company had announced with the K4 Note as well as Dolby Atmos audio technology. It will be arriving in three colours including champagne gold, platinum silver, and graphite grey and will be exclusively available on Flipkart via an open sale from the 23rd of March. There are some interesting and better options in the under 10k segment and Lenovo could face a hard time in selling the K5 Plus.
